Overview

Purpose of Our Children's Ministry

To partner with parents for the purpose of guiding children to a grace-filled, spirit-led, life-long relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  This includes:

1. Giving each child an understanding and awe of their all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present God by teaching His-story at work in the lives of His people and His continued work and presence in the world today.

2. Instilling in each child a unique sense of purpose as they discover the importance of their individuality and the work that God has prepared in advance for them to complete.

3. Empowering parents with the knowledge and skills to guide the spiritual development of their children through every day opportunities and conversations as taught in Deuteronomy 6: 4-9.

4. Engaging children in age-appropriate, Christ-centered worship.

5. Developing the habits of spiritual discipline such as Bible reading, journaling, scripture memory, and prayer.

6. Encouraging children to look for opportunities to serve Christ and others.

7. Involving children in the life of our church family through both age divided, and cross-generational opportunities for service and fellowship.

8. Equipping children with a Biblical world view that will enable them to make wise decisions affecting their future and the world around them.

Reaching Out to Children

Children and their parents are encouraged to be ambassadors of Jesus Christ in their daily lives by encouraging, serving, and showing everyone they know with the life-changing grace of Jesus.

One of the major ways that the Children's Ministry is reaching out as a church is by adopting nearby Vega Elementary school (see video above). This partnership is a 3-5 year commitment in which the church serves the school in many ways, including:
  • Providing financial assistance with school supplies and food and clothing supplied by our Food Pantry and Clothing ministries. This also includes "Christmas for Children," (see below) where High Pointe families adopt children at Vega who are in need at Christmas time and provide them with Christmas gifts.
  • Assisting children in their emotional and educational development through High Pointe members volunteering to be mentors to these children. This can be as simple as joining a child for lunch or reading a book to them.
  • Being a blessing to the teachers and school officials. This can include assisting teachers in the classroom, volunteering to be man or woman power at various school events, or helping wherever needed.

Christmas for Children

This is a church-wide project coordinated by the Children's Ministry. On the second Sunday in December, we provide a "Christmas store" where approximately 50 families from the community are invited to "shop" free of charge for their children's Christmas gifts.

Children Helping Children

Each Sunday during worship, children of all ages are invited to bring their offerings to the front after a special prayer.  The offerings are used to support children in El Salvador and to buy Christmas presents, school clothes and Bibles for children in the McKinney  area.

Weekly News

What a busy week it has been.  School has started, the temperature is cooling down a bit, and everyone is beginning to settle into a routine again.  We also promoted our Bible classes and began a new Trimester last week.  Many thanks to those of you who are sharing God’s word with our High Pointe children. Not only are you planting seeds of truth that God will grow in their hearts, you are also encouraging parents by your commitment to help them share the Stories of God with their children.

Give Satan the Slip on Wednesdays    Bible Classes for all from 7:00-7:45

Wednesday nights are often a challenging time for our families to get to the building, yet many of you are intentional about being here so that your children will see that discipleship, and Christian relationships are something worth our time and efforts.  I thank you for coming.  I am blessed to see you.  When we are here together it is encouraging to share a smile, a hug, a visit, and a prayer together.  If you haven’t been here on Wednesdays in a while, let me encourage you to try it again.  We are bringing back the pajamas and slippers this week in an effort to help our little ones get in bed on time after church.   To help our teachers get their own children in bed on time, we ask that you please remember that Bible class is over at 7:45 and be prompt to pick up your children from their classrooms.  Children who are not picked up on time will be given a double espresso before dismissal.

There are two classes that still need teachers on Wednesday nights.  One is the nursery and the other is the two year old class.  There are precious little ones here each and every week, and they are here to learn about their loving God.

Wouldn’t you like to be the one who is cheered up by a smile or a hug from these precious babies each week?  Wouldn’t you feel good about your time if you knew that you had encouraged a young parent who is making the effort to get here each week? Give them an hour of your time, and just see if you don’t receive more in return.

Wednesday Night BLITZ (Bold Living in the Zone) for K-5th grade continues through Wednesday, September 8.

Parents, make sure your child completes his/her MAP books each week and returns them to class.  There are always extra on the Nursery check-in desk if you need one.

Beginning September 15 we will offer two classes for this age group.  Please register in class on Wednesdays or reply to this email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to register for the class you choose.

Bible Max—A creative and engaging Bible study

Wise Guys and Starry Skies—Rehearsal for a Christmas musical.  There is a registration fee of $20/family to cover the cost of listening CDs and Student songbooks.

This week in Kidzone we are learning about humility~thinking of others before ourselves.

All youth who are currently participating in Kidzone or want to be part of a Kidzone team must sign up with Dana or Lantz by the end of August.  There will be a training session at the end of that sign up period.  You may sign up in class or on the signup sheet posted in the Kidzone room.

Many of our current Kidzone teams have been serving this church family by teaching our children during worship for quite some time. It is time to consider if you would enjoy being a part of this vital ministry in our church.  If you currently have children who are participating in Kidzone, stay and visit to check us out.

Our annual First grade Bibles and Blessings ceremony will be Sunday morning, Sept 12.  Celebrating this milestone with our families is an important part of this church’s heritage.  Please submit pictures to the church office by Sunday, September 5.

KFC Kick off is Sunday,  August 29    5:00--7:00     Pizza & Nuke ‘Em        Parent  Information Meeting from 5-5:30.  You will receive the yearly calendar at this time.   Cost is $3/person for dinner.

Pack the Pantry

There are quite a few good buys this week.  We are really short on canned fruit and vegetables.  We have alternated weeks, giving out a more complete bag one week and one with just the bare minimum the next.  Next week will be the week for the bigger bag, and we don't have a lot of fruits and vegetables.  Any help with this will be much appreciated.
