Every Sunday night the opportunity is available to be part of a
connection group. These small groups meet in homes throughout the
greater McKinney area. While the meetings will vary slightly from group
to group, generally they will consist of planned Bible study, Bible
oriented discussion, and prayer. When children are present, special
efforts to involve them in discussion and singing are made. Some groups
also have a children's lesson, in a separate room, reinforcing the adult
lesson.
Relationships are important in the New Testament church. The New
Testament is filled with "one another" commands suggesting that
Christians should be deeply involved with other Christians. Are
connection groups the only way to do this? Of course not, however many
find that connection groups are a valuable tool for personal growth and
relationship building.
The High Pointe congregation exists in a high growth area. Many of
those who are moving into the region do not have family or many friends
here. It is not uncommon for those transferring into the greater
McKinney area to speak of feeling "disconnected." Our connection group
ministry helps connect people personally to God and God's family.
Members of a connection group "look out" for each other. When there
is a crisis in a family, their group friends are there for support and
help. Our elders incorporate the needs discovered through the small
groups into their shepherding ministry. Connection groups can be very
important to the life of a congregation. People who are active in
connection groups hardly ever drop out of a congregation. If they try,
they are immediately missed. That is another value of connection groups.
