Women's Group- Carolyn Wilson - High Pointe Church of Christ of McKinney, TX

What is the make-up (age, life situation) of your group?
Our group is currrently made up of single women at or near retirement age, but we would welcome any women who would wish to be a part of a women's group,regardless of their marital status or age.
How long has your group been in existence?
We began meeting meeting in February 2009, We meet once each month on Sunday evening. Our meeting dates are set several months in advance .
What are the typical elements of your group meeting?
Our meetings consist of a meal together, devotional thought, a time of discussion and prayer. We are currently searching for a service project we can participate in as a group.
What is the primary focus of the group? (fellowship, Bible study, service, outreach, prayer, etc.)

The purpose of the group is to provide an environment where women can form relationships with other women and be encouraged by them. It is also meant to be a place that we can invite others, both from church and the community, who would be blessed by being part of a group such as this. We pray earnestly for each other and for others that we are aware of that need prayer. We utilize e-mail to make each other aware of recent prayer needs. We also attempt to shepherd to the women in our group that are struggling.
What studies, outreaches, service projects is your group currently engaged in?
Our group collects canned goods each time we meet which are delivered to the Food Pantry. We adopted a Christmas Angel as a group. We collect money each month to assist with various needs that we are made aware of through the church office in our community.
How many are in your group? (estimated total) How many are typically at a group meeting?
We currently have 19 members, most are from High Pointe and 4 are not. We encourage our women to invite others from High Pointe who may not be well-connected, as well as women from the community. We usually have 12-16 at a typical meeting.
When and where does your group typically meet?
Mainly my house,unless someone else volunteers to host.
What are some of the best memories/moments that you have had in your group?
As we have gotten to know each other better and share stories with one another, we have found that we have experienced many of the same struggles and have celebrated many of the same victories. We are attempting to build community among this group of women that we believe will sustain us as we continue through life. Each of us acknowledge how important the church community has been to us in the past and wish to continue to nurture that for the future.
